ACT Southern Districts Celebrate Under 15s Success

During a rain affected four days of the McDonald’s Underage Female Country Championships in Raymond Terrace this week, ACT Southern Districts claimed the Under 15 state title with a seven-wicket win over Central Northern Zone in the T20 final.

The Under 18 championships were severely affected by rain. All matches over the two days of scheduled competition were abandoned on Wednesday and Thursday.

Selection trials for the Under 18 division were held on Thursday due to the havoc caused by the wet weather.

Central Northern allrounder Isabella Cameron was named player of the tournament in the Under 15 division. She was the leading run-scorer for the championships with 148 runs at 74.00 and collected five wickets at 11.6 with the ball.

ACT Southern Districts’ opening batter Mikaylah John was named player of the Under 15 final on Tuesday. She made 43 not out from 50 balls to guide her team to victory.

The victory target of 93 was achieved in the 18th over. Central Northern was restricted to 4/92 from its 20 overs.

It was the first title, in the first competition, for ACT Southern Districts as a zone since boundaries were redrawn for NSW Country Cricket in the off-season.

Both finalists were unbeaten in their respective pools to qualify for the deciding match.

ACT Southern Districts opening bowler Grace Lyons was the leading wicket-taker throughout the competition. She collected seven wickets at the outstanding average of 5.57 from four matches played.
