Newcastle have returned to the winners list in taking out the McDonald's Country Championships final played at the beautiful Keira Oval in Wollongong.
Batting first, Greater Illawarra were dismissed for 221 on a good wicket, led by a superb century from opener Adam Berwick, supported by a busy 51 from Mitchell Hearn. Newcastle skipper Nick Foster was the pick of the bowlers taking 5/40 from his 10 overs.
In reply, Newcastle were never in trouble, chasing the runs down inside 46 overs, led by the classy Nathan Price who remained unbeaten on 113 with Jed Dickson also not out on 42.
Price was awarded the prestigious Mark Curry Medal for his match winning innings.
Country Cricket would like to thank Keira CC for being fantastic hosts on the day, as well as the support from Greater Illawarra Zone and Wollongong City Council.
